About the Pension Trust

What is the Pension Trust?

The Pension Trust is an independent trust established for the employees of San Luis Obispo County, the Superior Court in San Luis Obispo County and certain local agencies that have elected to contract with the County Board of Supervisors to participate in the Trust. The benefits available from the Pension Trust are set forth in the San Luis Obispo County Employees Retirement Plan.

Purpose

The Pension Trust exists for the exclusive purpose of providing accurate, timely benefits and services to its members and their beneficiaries. The Trust is also charged with the prudent investment of Member Contributions and County Appropriations, and defraying reasonable expenses of administration.

History

Established as voluntary plan in 1958 under California Government Code Section 53215, the Pension Trust has evolved over time. In 1968 the Retirement Plan was amended to its present form. In 1974, participation in the Plan became mandatory for all permanent County employees.
